Opening Speeches

In alphabetical order of country names, every delegation will be given a set amount of time to give an introductory speech. In practice, Opening Speeches often last 60 seconds per delegate, and are used for the following purposes:
- Giving a good first impression
- Stating their country’s stance on the issue
- Introducing original solutions to the issue
Opening Speeches are usually scripted before the conference even starts. They are usually not used to rebut another delegate’s Opening Speech.
Note-passing is not allowed during Opening Speeches. Delegates typically use this time to write their notes before handing over a whole stack of notes to the poor note-passer once the Opening Speeches are done.
