Social Experience

One of the core features of MUNs is the social experience! You can make many friends at a MUN conference if you are a nice person. Here are some opportunities to socialise.

Lunchtime and lobbying

Most lunches are catered for delegates. During lunch, you could continue discussing with other delegates about your plans for the debate. This is known as lobbying.

However, discussing council plans with other delegates before the conference even starts is not allowed. This is known as pre-lobbying.

Socials night

Most MUNs have a socials night, also known as dinner & dance. There are usually photo booths and other activities for delegates to do.

The highlight is the “dance” part of “dinner & dance”. Many MUNs have an in-house DJ to mix some beats, and delegates just… dance? It’s mostly just for fun, don’t think too hard about it.

Just have fun. Don’t start discussing academics with other delegates. You’re only young once…

Informal dinners

Blocs/Councils often have unofficial dinners after each day. If you’re here to socialise, this is one of the best ways to socialise with other delegates.

You may only get invited if you’re a nice person. Don’t be a terrible person during debate to try and win awards, because then you will miss out on all the fun social stuff.

Delegates who go for these unofficial dinners usually won’t start discussing academics anyway, so you have a lower activation energy to have fun and enjoy yourself.
